like going to visit Monkeyland and Birdland..
where monkeys and lemurs that have been rescued from abusive captives and injuries...
can come live in peace...
in this massive sactuary...
dedicated just to their well-being...
and we get to walk amongst them...
as they go about their business...
and curiously checking out the humans...
from high in the tree tops.
We visited a elephant sanctuary where small groups of elephants...
come live instead of being culled due to over population in the bush.
They aren't taught tricks for tourists but are only taught "tricks" to make life easier for the vets to keep them healthy.
Accustomed to human beings, I was able to get amazing close up shots of them.
Their skin has the most surprising texture.
Crossing legs to relax on her own accord - not being told to.
This elephant's name is Mopane - just like the name of my company...
so I had to buy her "footprint signature" on parchment...
after getting so close to her and taking her for a walk as she "held" my hand.
Andrea was a champion and fed them...
and hopped onto his back for a ride...
which she enjoyed but said....
their hair is kind of prickly...
